Facebook ad rejected? Common reasons and fixes
Meta checks every ad before it runs. Most rejections come from a handful of avoidable mistakes in the wording or the photo. Here's what to look for, and how to fix the ad and get it approved.
1. Talking about the viewer's personal traits
Meta doesn't allow ads that say or imply they know something personal about the viewer, such as their health, weight, money problems, religion or caste.
- Rejected: "Are you overweight? Join our gym."
- Approved: "New weight-loss batch starting Monday at FitZone Rohini."
2. Health and weight-loss claims, before/after photos
Promises like "lose 10 kg in 30 days", guaranteed cures, and side-by-side before/after photos are often rejected. Describe the service, the expert and the offer instead of a result.
3. Claims you can't prove
"No.1 shop in Pune", "100% guaranteed", "lowest price in India". Unless you can back them up, these can get an ad rejected as misleading. Specific facts work better anyway: "Open since 1998", "Free home delivery within 5 km".
4. The landing page or WhatsApp doesn't match
If the ad promises one thing and the website or chat offers another, or the link is broken, the ad can be rejected. Make sure the offer in the ad is real and easy to find.
5. Restricted products and categories
Some things can't be advertised at all, and others need extra permission or have rules. Examples include alcohol, tobacco and vapes, weapons, prescription medicines, some financial products, and dating. Ads about housing, jobs or loans may need to be marked as a special category, which limits some targeting options.
6. Low-quality or shocking images
Blurry photos, images with flashing or fake buttons, and sensational or violent images get rejected or shown less. Use a clear, real photo of your shop, product or team. Text on the image is allowed, but a little goes a long way.
7. Bad grammar, ALL CAPS and symbols
"BIGGEST $ALE!!! 💥💥💥 CALL NOW!!!" looks like spam. Write the ad the way you would talk to a customer.
How to fix a rejected ad
- Open the rejection notice. Meta tells you which policy the ad broke.
- Edit the text or photo to remove the problem, then save. The edited ad goes back for review.
- If you think Meta made a mistake, you can request a review from Account Quality.

How long does Meta take to review an ad?
Most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, often much faster. Reviews can take longer around festivals or for new ad accounts.
Will a rejected ad get my account banned?
One rejection is normal and won't ban you. Repeated serious violations can restrict an ad account, so fix the cause rather than resubmitting the same ad.
Is the 20% text rule still in force?
Meta no longer rejects ads just for having more than 20% text on the image, but images with less text usually perform better.
